philosophy and awards
The WNC aims to boost youth participation in cross-country skiing by making racing fun and supportive. A key value of the WNC series is helping youth view competition as a way to grow together, striving to be their best while supporting their teammates to do the same. The WNC series seeks to inspire intrinsic motivation, focusing on personal growth rather than external rewards.
The WNC award system encourages both team and individual involvement. The series will be scored based on how many participants show up for each race. Teams with the highest participation will receive awards, and individuals who race in all five events will also be recognized.
Each hosting club will decide on the specific awards for individual races. These might include awards for technique, placement, or other unique honors created by the club.
